My Story

A Bit More About Me
I was born and raised in Cozumel, a famous Island in the Mexican Caribbean. Living in a small town surrounded by the beach and jungle helped me connect with nature organically. My childhood weekends were spent learning about ecology and taking part in environmental projects with local biologists. Surrounding myself with people that cared instilled in me a desire to solve the world’s fundamental problems; hunger, pollution, clean water, housing, education, etc. In a child’s mind, everything is solvable and straightforward, you simply got to do it and then voalá; there is no problem. Need water, bring it. You need a house, build it. Something is dirty, clean it. I was naive but don’t get me wrong, I still believe this can be solved, however, I am more aware of what’s needed to do so.
I was excited when I got my acceptance letter to the University of Rochester. I was going to a new city, living on my own, and full of strangers. Most importantly, I had the opportunity to arm myself with the skills and knowledge that would help me fulfill my dreams. The open curriculum gave me the freedom to complement my mechanical engineering career with political science, environmental justice, and advanced chemical engineering courses. My interest in renewable energy grew as I analyzed it in depth from a technical and social perspective. I satiated my hands-on curiosity by joining UR Baja where I got to design, build, and race an off-road vehicle.

My purpose as a mechanical engineer is to materialize ideas. Helping to meet urban and rural needs, minimize pollution, increase the use and yield of renewable energy, and increase machine efficiency. In fewer words, assisting in making the world a better place. I admire designs that prioritize human health, human connections, and environmental concerns.
